Today we welcome Dr. Jeremy Schmoe of Minnesota Functional Neurology and Chiropractic. This is just a fascinating podcast talking about the importance of brain health and rehabilitating the brain for optimal wellness.

This has been one of my favorite podcasts to date because people don't talk enough about the importance of rehabilitating the brain no matter what the trauma has been. Dr. Schmoe breaks this down into an easy to understand way. On top of that his background is very impressive.

Dr. Jeremy Schmoe (DC DACNB FACFN, FABBI), a Minnesota concussion doctor and owner of Minnesota Functional Chiropractic & Neurology (MFNC.) He is a leading practitioner who works with patients from all over Minnesota as well as the USA.

Dr. Schmoe has successfully completed the TBI Fellowship Examination for Brain Injury Rehabilitation and specializes in helping patients who are suffering from concussions and complex brain injuries, and is an expert in Chiropractic Functional Neurology. Dr. Schmoe is a Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist and a Fellow of Functional Neurology.

Dr. Schmoe is also a speaker for the Carrick Institute of Graduate Studies, where he shares his expertise and presents advice on managing patients with concussion and brain injury. In this role, he teaches and educates other practitioners about clinical applications in functional neurology. He has also lectured for the Minnesota Chiropractic Association, Northwestern Health Science University, University of Minnesota Sports Performance Program and various patient support groups.

Dr. Schmoe can be found at the two following websites:

  • MNFunctionalNeurology.com
  • MNConcussion.com

Recently there was an article that I found on ccn.com about a potential link that was found between folic acid and autism. Here is a link to the article: https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/05/160511105352.htm The article discusses the fact that there might be a connection between taking too much folic acid and B12 during pregnancy and an increase in autism. The immediate reaction to this research is that this is premature and women should still stay on folic acid during pregnancy. However, there are some concerns that I bring up in this podcast as we get into a deeper conversation on the matter. TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THIS PODCAST: -There are different forms of folic acid. L-5 MTHF is the desired folic acid for individuals with methylation problems -What are SNPs (Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms)? These are genetic mutations that are present in individuals. -What is methylation? How does this process affect overall health and wellness? -Genetic testing and 23andme.com. What role does genetic testing play in health? RESOURCES DISCUSSED IN THIS PODCAST -23 and me genetic testing -Livewello -Genetic Genie -Health Coach 7 -Forms of B12- Cobalamin -Cyanocobalamin (cheap brand of B12) -Methylcobalamin -Hydroxycobalamin -Adenosylcobalamin -Seeking Health- provides B minus that is a B vitamin without B9 or B12 -Epigenetics Course on btbha.com. Podcast 112: Th1/Th2 Balance

BTBHA welcomes back Patrick Plum to discuss Th1/Th2 Balance.  Patrick shares with us his personal story about Th1 and Th2 dominance in order to show the importance of balancing the immune system when dealing with chronic diseases of the immune system such as Lyme Disease.

This is an aspect of health and infectious diseases that practitioners don't always explore.  Therefore, it is important for everyone to understand the way the both parts of the immune system (the cell-mediated Th1 and the humoral-mediated Th2) work.

Supplements that don't affect either Th1 or Th2 include Vitamin D, colostrum and fish oil.  Here is how the two systems of Th1 and Th2 breakdown:

Th1/Th2 Balance

Thank you Patrick Plum for coming on the show again. If you would like to stay connected to Patrick.  Find him on facebook under his name or Instagram under Patrick Plum Lyme Warrior
